really Farz? i thought he wasn't too bad at DEMF. at least it wasn't the same old cheese. sounded surprisingly current (for Derrick at least).
i guess to be completely honest, i didn't see a whole ton of his set.
anyway, seems like every decent DJ ends up blowing at Vessel regardless (i.e. Damian Lazarus, Francois K) so i'll probably be skipping this one unless there's another open bar or something. :P
and while we're at it, what's the deal there? is that place just jinxed or what? it's a nice club inside, and a Funktion One system, so why do i always leave feeling let down?
maybe you should have gone to the night they had Loco Dice...For me it was one of the best nights in SF of the year musically. I agree, the Damian Lazaruz night did suck bad, and the system was blown out then, now rectified and considerably upgraded. I haven't heard Derrick in a while, we'll see...
yeah greg, really....he wrecked a bunch..saunderson played before him and seriously showed him up so bad.i was surprisingly sober during derrick's set at this point at the festival, so you're gonna have to trust me....but ive seen derrick may so many times and ive seen him be completely amazing and work the mixer like no one else....so idk what will happen at vessel.....nice booking either way!

don't forget danny howells. he's a phenomenal dj and super nice guy, but when he played at vessel you could tell he was not into the party at all. and i say this having seen him destroy a place like ruby skye. oh add three to that list too. vessel is very a nice spot, physically, but it's jinxed by its management imo. the way the club is run makes it really hard for a vibe to ever develop. does it cater to party people or go out to be seen people? i feel like it belongs in the marina. such a stuffy place with stuffy rules and stuffy door staff, ultimately producing a stuffy crowd. the antithesis of all my favorite venues in sf. i don't mean to be a wet blanket on this party (and i doubt i'm changing anyone's mind on this forum), but 'the vessel experience' frustrates me to no end. especially with an outstanding ticket like this... well either way, i think this night will have a good turn out just because of the promoters involved and the crowds they bring. and if there's one person doing something right at vessel, it's the guy/girl that sets up the decibel parties.
why does it have to be at 12 pm on a thursday? let me see if my work will let me out early.... lol. may is a maniac behind the decks. this could get interesting.
this the same decebel festival people from up in seattle?

i wouldn't mind seeing derrick at a smaller venue in SF. That could change his selection?
I'm with Farzana though... most of the stuff he was playing at DEMF couldn't hold my interest too long. I really wanted to like the music but couldn't and ended up calling it a night.
Perhaps, Alland will be showing up Derrick! Watch out Detroit!
the thing is when Derrick is spinning behind a huge stage at DEMF, you cant really see his moves. the man is a master on the turn tables, he doesnt just come and mix tracks. and you can see this at an intimate venue at vessel
Kirk, regarding Alland showing up Derrick... i highly doubt it, we are talking about 20+ spinniing to large crowds, thats not some shit you just pick up in a few years.
Mr. May does best playing in smaller venues imo, and will surely play a varied, funky, multi-genre set, which, sadly, is a rarity to be heard at an SF techno night.
this was awesome. i had a blast playing, and the turnout was REALLY great! the door was a breeze, everything in the booth worked... good times all around!

i also stopped by to check this party out after my fun at the birdnest and found the new door staff was friendly and efficient. there was a slight misunderstanding over gray tickets and white tickets at the counter, but the ladies out front sorted it out for me nicely. we get inside and it's pretty damn packed. the sound was firing perfectly and derrick may was tearing it up. sucks i had to leave at 2 to move my car, i know these parties will sometimes go late when a crowd of that size is still there. it's amazing how hard it was to find greg in that crowd, i still owe you a drink bro. thanks! :)
wish i'd shown up to this one earlier, caught the tail end post-birdnest. derrick was definitely tearing it up. always refreshing to hear a nice old school set, lots of really raw tracks with no fancy effects, just 909 getting the job done as well as ever. i was also pleasantly surprised by the new door staff -- they actually just let us wander in for free, guess they didn't realize derrick would not be stopping at 2am.
cant wait
hope his set is better than it was at demf. ack.

how much is this?
I am going to assume free, yes?
Yeah, what is up w/ flyers and a lot of invites on facebook not having cover charges listed? It's annoying.

i heard the door staff was fired last weekend, maybe the new guys will have it together

Rich, changes have been made ;)
Apparently upper management fired the DOUCHE who managed the door security for the last few years, and a few others... right on time for Derrick!

Never seen him live. Looking forward to it, especially at a small venue!
