Jason Short is young, tirelessly enthusiastic, and stands as one of San Francisco's emerging techno DJ/producers in a scene gaining international recognition for new sounds and fresh directions. He didn't arrive here by accident though; it is literally a decade's worth of hard work in the making. The resourceful Short is the co-founder of the popular San Francisco label Auralism as well as one half the production duos Coalition of the Killing (COTK) and Kyaro. Through these outlets, he has released an array of tracks and remixes on notably diverse labels- from Chris Fortier's Fade to Falko Brocksieper and M.I.A.'s Karloff Recordings. From his Fog City HQ in SF, he has planned road campaigns this year that include return trips to South American and Europe. Short also speaks of a 2009 as a time where he is looking "...to shock everyone with my new music". Tired of the growing malaise in the dance music community, Short is eager to dust up the status quo this year with some memorable techno cuts. Tracks focused on strong melodies with the same intense psychedelic personality he's become recognized for internationally. But Short also yearns, like any true artist, to showcase his wide range of musical emotions with a full length album that exposes his love of IDM, ambient, dub, and cinematic soundscapes. He promises to unveil that material on a much-anticipated Jason Short full-length due later this year. He hopes to catch a lot of the chin-stroking technorati off guard. You can submit your comments to him in person at one of his many upcoming DJ or live PA gigs somewhere in the world. Or better yet, Short suggests, make the pilgrimage to San Francisco and catch either the monthly party Lil' Brother or one of the Aural Therapy one-offs. It is here that he and Auralism have built a strong foundation by playing host to other like-minded characters such as Dave Aju, Mikael Stavostrand, Elon, Alland Byallo, Touane among countless others.

Following his placing 3rd in the UK’s Muzik Magazine-Bedroom Bedlam Mix Competition in 2001 at the age of 17 (as the only American), Joe embarked upon a successful period on the Phoenix club circuit, playing all over and securing a residency at Club Freedom. Studies in composition, piano, and conducting began in 2002 at San Francisco State University, demanding the utmost dedication. A hard choice was made: the DJ world would have to wait. As 2008 begins, J. Rogers re-enters the world of electronic/dance armed with a B.M. in music composition. "Before, I was quite happy working with 2-3 turntables. Now that Ableton has entered into the picture, a new approach has emerged-- we are now dealing with the possibilities of live composition.” His recent Ableton sets feature rapid-fire transitioning, layering, and sample-dropping across a diverse selection of sounds ranging from minimal, to techno, to house, to dubstep, and everything in between. It’s an exciting presentation not to be missed!
Quite the multi-tasker these days, Joe maintains a hefty studio schedule dropping originals and remixes regularly, is a co-founder of SF’s Blipswitch.net online community, manages promotions for Surya Dub, and also runs the Blipswitch Digital record label. Don't blink, or you might miss him!

Born in San Diego, raised in Bay Area since the age of 5. I never picked up any instruments as a child and was never musically inclined. I believe my knack for rhythm was picked up through dancing.
Went to my first party in 1996 at 15 years of age. In 2000 i bought my first set of turntables and taught myself how to spin. I started off playing deep house and drum and bass. It was around this time i began teaching myself how to scratch.
Around 2002 I caught the breakbeat bug. Adam Freeland's "Tectonics" and Koma and Bones early work had a great influence on me. My breaks fixation lasted until 2006, when I began to venture back into all things house music.
Currently a resident of two collectives, E.B. and Strategik. M.O.D. has opened up for Evil Nine, Carbon Community, BLIM, Chris Carter and performed alongside Jez of The Autobots.
