hey Ya'll

I have a metric shit-ton of gear and don't know how to use any of it very well. Anyone want to come jam out at my place, hit me up...

isaac dot anthony at g mail ... com

I also bought ProTools 8 just so I can have more software I don't understand either!

my advice, take a piece of gear out of your rig. put some headphones on, plug your instrument into the wall, and sit on a comfortable chair. get well caffeinated/ stoned (with legally purchased pot from your nearest cannabis wholesaler. word up oakland!) and just sit twisting knobs all day maybe with slow motion car crash test footage on your video projector (well that's just what i'd do). then the next day, get a clear head and read the manual, or pdf of the manual on your laptop, on the bus, ferry or train to work. then do it over again with another piece of gear. you'll be making enough weird noises to make a dog sick to its stomach in no time.

there are alot of resources online about synthesis as well as books and cds. my fav is wendy carlos' "secrets of synthesis"

but don't collect any gear until you've fully mastered everything inside the last piece of kit. or start reading gear porn mags like futuremusic you just start going, 'i hella need that!'

I know what it means to have 1 session with somebody that knows there shit. When I first starting learning this stuff, I randomly had a conversation about writing music with my buddy jacob and we started sharing ideas. We had one session and it changed everything for the both of us.

Another example, I showed j-phlip some automation techniques when she was building up her production skills and sparked a whole deal of creativity. Kenneth Scott showed me how to use keyboard shortcuts and route audio in a way that I would have never dreamed of.

IMO, something happens when you get two creative minds in a room. A signal gets passed between them. Its just way different from text or movie.
