well i like the look of the new stuff, sure. it's not as standard messageboard, but it looks fine if form over function is your thang
but it sure does suck that a redesign killed the activity.
should have beta'd it :)
or maybe, hopefully, this was a real time beta

yea. the old one was fine. and people actually posted.
also the whole "bump wars" thing was totally overblown. as far as message board wars go the bumps on here barely constitute a slap off, let alone a war.
i don't know why, but this one just seems to have lost the magic.
i miss the old blipswitch.
what was so bad about it anyway? just bumping events? i mean, the way things fell on and off the radar was so much more natural then. i HATE that the forums are separate from the events, and events are separate from the past events. even the new icon for new messages are just somehow less engaging.
i also really don't like the whole need of filling out a long ass form just to put an event up.
remember when you could just throw up a simple .jpg and could get on with your day?
Yeah, I don't like the separation of events from the forum, either. It means going into a separate section to check out the forum, which maybe means less forum activity. Also, the size of the flyer icons means that less events appear on the screen at one time. There also seems to be a lot less commenting on events. And, as I mentioned in a comment in the events section, I'd like to see out of town events separated from local events again.
a redesign happened to this other board i frequent (nwtekno.org) around the same time as blipswitch. The redesign on nwtekno caused some major readability issues, lack of formatting hurts my eyeballz, bad. Making me never want to go to the site very much at all. On the other hand, the formatting here is just fine, i like the cleaner look of the pages and flow of information, but, i agree with most of the feelings here.
The events page is too far separated from the rest of the forum, i think i maybe saw one or two "bumps" over the time i have been here and thats nothing compared to other boards. I think the best thing that could happen is to bring the events back into the overall forum but link the current events page into the process of creating an event. I personally think going through a "simple" form (could be made optional, i guess) to fill out an event is cool... because someone like me can then just quick check a calendar to see what's happening. I am only assuming that the reason the traffic is down here is because the discussion of events is where everybody loves to go, goof off, say silly shit to each other and get excited about a show. Its where i got my pants notoriety (lol, sorry). It is generally the heart of the site, having it on another page, where you have to click away, creates an extra step and almost feels as if you are on another site altogether.
Hey, everyone. Thanks for your input. I'll be moving the events forums back soon, and I will probably have to set up some optional fields for "events" when you make a forum post. Actually, it is funny because this was the way I had originally intended to design the forum post form...ran out of time I guess...sorry
A new full-time job and lingering freelance projects have taken time away from polishing up this messageboard, but bear with me, I'll have your events forum back up soon :)
Design efforts have not gone unnoticed, it looks good, but things seem a little too *open* for me, don't know why. Too much negative space or something...
Reminds me more of a label website than a forum...
Designwise, I'd like the avatars at the side again. Was easier to read. Like all the other said as well, events forum is really missing. That's what's the site about after all.
it looks beautiful now but a possible solution -- could the events & audio postings simply be added back into the forum listings? And there's a mechanism to have a forum posting automatically link up with event listings if everything's done properly.
Also, when people post mixes, I'm no longer able to download them... I like to listen to mixes 2 or 3 times, and I'm not always going to be online.

^ Yup, these are the first priorities on my to-do list. Basically, in the future you will post in the forum and it will automatically add to the events listings and the calendar if you mark your post as an "event". Unfortunately, I haven't had time to work on the site at all. So you can probably expect this functionality by next week.
yes! thats what it was... i was wondering why it was struggling to read... the column width on the page is too wide... too many words per line... with the large avatars on the left it would probably make it perfect.
agreed. I like the old one!

agreed.
The events "topic" had the majority of the traffic and when that was split off, the rest of the forum has suffered :(

Yeah, I miss the old board. Oh well. It was definitely more active.
I too agree. The old board had more of a community feel to it. Interaction with everyone was better too. It was also easier to put a face to a name.
i liked it when people bumped shit. keeps activity going. :)

I wish that I had had a chance to check this board out when it was being developed, so I could have given feedback before the switchover :/

Hmmm... I admit that I've been reading/posting significantly less on this new version than I did on the old one. Not sure why.

I do appreciate the effort put into making this site, though, and tweaking with it to make it better.
