Hawtin says we go HARD!

Check this new Richie Hawtin mix from 9-6-08:

Hard techno all the way, hard as nails. Back to '98 son!

I've always thought that, like it or not, Hawtin is an excellent gauge for spotting the upcoming trend and where our music is going. 2001's DE9 pointed towards large-scale minimal adoption, then he seemed to go sorta housey and party-boy starting around 2005/6ish. The techno sound certainly appears to be moving in a more housey direction to me this year (I heard there was a TON of deep house at DEMF this year). And now it seems Mr. Hawtin is taking a turn for the tough sounds of old. I'm all for it. I fucking love banging it out hard like that.

from 2001 to 2005 he was Richie-Lite all the way...out of the 20+ times i've seen him he's only been fucking awesome about half the time......i remember i saw him once and he literally dropped 4/4 for 16 beats at a time and that was it. then a 5 minute break. all night!! i thought he rocked at DEMF this year tho. im interested to hear this new set.....

yeah, the venue alone was sick that night.
Lovely marble pillars, solid floors, the sound was redonkulous, the lighting sparse dark, lovely and atmospheric.

I remember the solid wall of bass monolake dropped. My chest rattled.
Everyone froze.

Hawtin did it.
Luciano did it (three or so times that weekend bbq and all)
and I about died with techno enjoyment and was up for, ooo, about way too long.

and yeash, after party lovelyness.

funny how I have partied with you folks in close quarters and didn't even know it, amanda and amie and nikki were there too!

but anyway, yeah, hard.

luciano was awesome, but I'm sorry, Richie bored me to death that night (at least the first two hours) He kept taking out the lows for 10 minutes or more. I didn't go to the afterparty, 4 hours of richie was enough for me, though I heard it was much better.

Yeah, he was pretty good. Of course, I had just come from hearing Forest Green and fuckin DRUMCELL tear it up at Anu so he seemed pretty laid back by comparison, but it was definitely harder techno than expected.

and yeah, starting with having booked Amber and Dragn'fly for last April's Faktion party, I can say that people are definitely ready for hard techno this year. I think the proliferation of minimal this year has actually contributed to that; there's so much lower energy sound that everyone's been ready for something that reminds them of where it comes from.

yeah, I meant 8 year actually, which was a lot of fun! That venue was interesting too, the spot so close to the water was pretty nice ;)

It was an extremely long day(s)...

I was totally gonna follow that up with "I've gotten lame in my old age" but I'm gonna wait and see

I do have to be at work and in a meeting on Monday morning which might make things difficult. Back in college there were no meetings. Only kegstands, beerbongs, and 72-hour rave excursions to Detroit!

body pounding, punishing music tickling your earlobes and molesting you with the bass. that's FUCKIN TECHNO.

i've always thought that techno in my opinion was a serious hard music genre that involved art and sophistication while turning you inside out with audio/speaker dynamics.

soft club techno for cocktail sipping and yayo sniffin has its place but embrace the hards beats man. other wise it's house house house.

am i at 50 on this post? does that make me snob yet? quality over quantity `;)

woot! on to more one word answers to make me techno space pirate. j/k!

peace love techno, sean.

Speedy J should deliver at KONTROL Sat. for all you hard techno fans! Heard a set of his from earlier this year (not DEMF) and if he plays like he did then, the EndUp is gonna go off, fo' sho'.

couple of points on this thread:

1. Kero (Detroit Underground) is fucking really sick and aslo is probably one of the sickest graphic designers ive ever seen.

2. Seth should bring back the dreads.

3. Speedy J is gonna peel your face back this Saturday.

Ok thats it

hah,

The guy in the center of the pic with the black cap and white tee shirt looks a lot like Joe with a goatee and short hair. Hehehe

www.myspace.com/rozanskimusic

God I hope not. I guess that's one of the many reasons why I don't sport a goatee..

A short hair switch could come any day now though. That buzz-shaver is looking more and more attractive everytime I have to wipe this mop out of my eyes. Hmmmm....
