going for sure but so far this is one of weakest line ups i remember seeing.

yeah.. im not too impressed but id love to see Wighnomy Bros since they dont come around that often. Maybe SF is spoiling it for me.. But i love to meet up with all my friends that live in chicago and detroit.. its like a yearly reunion...

Few things:
1) This is NOT the complete lineup. Its only a preview. Every year its across the board, and missing some people whom everyone winds up getting real excited about.
2) Artists like bad boy bill bring in the young candy-raver "bad taste in music" crowd which is necessary in order for the festival to make money so they can keep having it. The festival is huge and you wont have to go anywhere near that nonsense (i never do).
3) Wighnomy bros are playing in sf immediately following the festival according to their website (guess where?)

I hate to say it, but I am sitting out this year. Jesus wept, but I am coming to the end of my unemployment and the summer money situation sucks. I have been trying to sell my special sauce and chicken nugs but no one is buying.
The festival wasn't all that fun last year, I think I DON'T LIKE LARGE CROWDS, and minimal sounds better in a club then at a festival. Actually my afterparty festival stuff was the most fun. I got out of control there were wings flying all over the place and chicken shit on the walls, it was sick.
I hate to say it, but I am a bit board of detroitish djs right now, I want to hear more of the people that are playing at mutek than I want to hear from the detroit line up. Though I have been to mutek and it is not as fun overall. Canadians are calmer than dmfuckers.
Damn, you bitches are hard to please.
I'm all about it: Luciano, Huckaby, Bug, Tiefschwarz, The Works, Old Miami...nuff said.
And btw, the more accessible and commercial dance music stuff is usually in a totally separate area than the deeper more underground stuff so don't expect to suffer through Bad Boy Bill while waiting to hear Marco Carola...
Beatport tent is usually where it's at anyway....

btw from someone who has been to 8 demfs its about the experience. the sound. of course its about the music too but its not the only selling point. and even if the lineups "arent as great as the year before" its the best weekend of the year. trust.

Yeah, it'll be my first time @ DEMF, but the lineup looks swell to me so far. Bug, Luciano, Loco Dice, Adultnapper, Lazarus, Gerber, Onur Ozer, Onsulade, Tiga, Allien, etc., etc. doesn't disappoint me!
I'll be going, but only to see Benny Benassi and Buttnectar. The rest of the lineup is pretty weak...

there's four/five stages. you dont even have to venture over to the lame ones. i spent 80% of my time in the beatport tent last year. never even heard benassi and other crap.

The current lineup doesnt look terribly "detroitish" to me. However if you arent into large crowds, yea the festival (or any festival for that matter) isnt gonna be for you :/
Mutek is a ton of fun, but in a completely different way. Its calmer, but feels a little more intimate. Theres also the whole "partying all weekend surrounded by smoking hot french girls" part that helps too ;)

I gotta be honest...
Lineup is not making me very excited thus far. There are names on that lineup that have played practically every DEMF for years! Plus, this is the 10 year anniversary!! This is the year to drop a lineup that would make us shit in our pants. This is the year to bring tons of names that have never played the festival, dig up some iconic Detroit artists that haven't played in years, bring people from overseas who don't regularly play in the states, and blow all previous years out of the water.
This is the year to have names like Kraftwerk, Villalobos, Luomo, force Richie to shave his head and play a Plastikman set, or even do something insane like have Daft Punk on the main stage. Granted... a few of those things are probably impossible (Hawtin will never be bald again, and Daft Punk probably costs WAY too much), but I guess I was anticipating something truly special for the 10 year anniversary DEMF, and what I see in this lineup are a lot of the same names I've seen for many years past.
It's becoming predictable, and imo, this was the year to really WOW us.
I'll definitely be shedding a tear on Memorial Day Weekend if I indeed skip it this year.
Or I could end up being full of shit and you'll see me there....(wouldn't be the first time)

Mutek also has the appeal of having daytime activities and workshops in case you haven't wasted your brain cells away. It'd be interesting if DEMF tried some of that too--but then it wouldn't be down and dirty DEMF. I'm debating going to both this year, but going to Mutek after going to DEMF is a very weird vibe. One or the other!

there are some nice new names on there, but nothing that says go go go to me. I have been to all but one of the demfs, so I have had my fair share of demf action. I want to be seeing some shackleton on this lineup or shed or some of the panorama people.
I have heard there is a villalobos mutek rumor floating around. The outdoor piknik mutek parties are sick, and almost worth the travel time. I go to see hawtin and villalobos do a 6 hour set at one and it was almost too perfect of a party.
I know I will regret not going, and a couple of my friends have offered to pick up my bar tabs while I am there, so maybe I should go, but alas. money is a bit tight this year...and it has been a good year in dancing here in the bay.
